Marriageable age

After having written about arranged marriages quite a while back(way back in 2017!), I thought I will write about what is the correct marriageable age for people from India.

So, what is the correct marriageable age? Frankly, I don’t know…it just depends on each person finding the right person if we consider a love marriage scenario. In India’s setup, arranged marriages are more common.

So, what is the correct marriageable age in an arranged marriage scenario for adults in India?

In an arranged marriage, most parents start looking for a groom for a girl from around 24 years age, in my part of the world. By that time, the girl might have hopefully completed her graduation and might be working too. When we start looking for grooms from that age, the wedding might be finalized in a year or so. So, the girls will get married by the age of 25 which according to me is a good age 🙂

It is quite peculiar, but most boys in my part of the world promptly get married when they complete 27 years of age. This ‘magical age’ seems to be applicable only to boys though!! The parents of boys start looking for eligible girls by the time the boys are 25 or 26. This ensures that the boys will be suitably married in a year’s time at 27(even though that age restriction seems to have been lowered to 25 years for boys now! :))

So, I think 25 years for women and 27 years for mean are ideal ages for women and men to get married. But marriage is a lot more complicated with a lot of people involved, so what is written theoretically might not perfectly work out in practice. So, it is good to think and wait and find the perfect life partner, hopefully before the biological clock ticks away!
