Quick on the heels of my previous post which dealt with the ‘Opera’ browser, this post talks about yet another privacy browser called ‘Brave’. As we know, “privacy” is a big concept today. There are privacy browsers and privacy search engines for the “privacy” conscious Internet world. The ‘Brave’ privacy browser is creating ripples for its revolutionary business model.

  1. The ‘Brave’ privacy browser was founded by Brendan Eich (co-founder of Javascript and CEO of Mozilla) and Brian Bondy in 2015
  2. It is built on ‘Chromium’ – a project maintained by Google
  3. The ‘Brave’ browser is a free and open source web browser
  4. It can be downloaded from this link
  5. ‘Brave’ is on a mission to fix the Internet!
  6. It is three times faster than Chrome and uses 35% less battery on mobile devices
  7. Its revolutionary business model strips out nosey ads and ad trackers that try to identify who you are
  8. It then replaces it with its own ads and you can send money to sites that you like
  9. ‘Brave’ claims that they will not store user data on its servers
  10. You can also browse even more privately using “Tor” as a proxy(“Tor” hides your history and hides your location by routing your request through various servers, thereby anonymizing your request)
  11. You can contribute to websites through “Brave Rewards”
  12. The browser had 25 million monthly users as of Feb 2, 2021
  13. Brave has stated that it had acquired a search engine called ‘Tailcat’ in March 2021, which is developed by a company called ‘Cliqz’ (which will reveal a more private search engine for its browser)

The ‘privacy’ market is growing by leaps and bounds today. Privacy browsers and privacy search engines are slowly fulfilling the need of privacy conscious individuals. I think the best is yet to come in the ‘privacy’ field!

Have you used the ‘Brave’ browser? What do you think of it?
