With umpteen number of social media platforms and other digital avenues, huge amounts of data are being generated. Companies can make use of this data and analyze and penetrate the digital privacy of any person. They can understand their shopping interests, medical history, the places they visited and more. Privacy hence is no longer a trivial issue.

No wonder an entire week(January 24 -28) is devoted to safeguarding data privacy. With so much of privacy on board, will certifications be far behind? Here are the top and most important privacy certifications from IAPP – the leading organization that deals with privacy certification:

IAPP

IAPP or the ‘International Association of Privacy Professionals’ is a leading organization that empowers professionals with privacy skills and certifications. They have three important privacy certifications to bolster the privacy industry and protect the data assets of any organization. They are:

a. CIPM

CIPM or the Certified Information Privacy Manager certification is primarily aimed at privacy professionals who manage day to day operations of privacy.

With this certification, privacy professionals can feel confident about managing privacy programs across all stages of its life cycle.

Through this certification a professional will learn how to form a privacy team, form a common privacy vision, develop a privacy framework, and communicate it to the different stakeholders.

b. CIPP

CIPP or the ‘Certified Information Privacy Professional’ is the certification that primarily enables professionals to understand the different privacy laws and regulations relating to a particular region. If you are looking at understanding the different privacy laws and regulations of the different regions in the world, CIPP is the one for you.

There are four different types of CIPP certification. They are

CIPP/U (US private sector)

CIPP/E (Europe)

CIPP/A (Asia)

CIPP/C (Canada)

c. CIPT

CIPT or the Certified Information Privacy Technologist is primarily aimed at technology professionals to bolster their privacy skills.

Technology professionals achieving the CIPT certification can stitch privacy into every stage of development, create privacy friendly products, keep up with the constantly evolving technology landscape and learn to use them while respecting privacy factors.

Through the CIPT certification, one will widely be respected as both a technology and privacy professional.

Exam details:

The CIPP/E and CIPM exams have alone been translated to French and German.

All other exams are only available in English

Fees:

The fees to take all certifications is $550

However, for every subsequent attempt it is $375

You should take the exam within one year of purchase of the exam

If you do hold one certification, you can register for other certifications at $375

Exams can be re-scheduled up to 48 hours before the exam

Non-members of IAPP must pay a certification maintenance fee(CMF) of $250 every 2 years(however, if you are a member of IAPP, this fee is included in the membership)

CPEs:

You will need to have 20 CPEs per term per certification
