  • In the past few years, I have heard of several people having their Facebook account compromised.

In this post, we learn to recognize Facebook account compromise and the remedial steps that must be taken post the FB hack.

How do you recognize that your Facebook account has indeed been compromised?

  • From the victims perspective, if you recognize that multiple people are getting friend requests on your behalf without you doing anything – it is the HACKER AT WORK!
  • From a Facebook friends perspective, if you get a repeat friend request from your ALREADY existent “friend”, then it is wise to STOP and THINK and not accept the new friend request !
  • Another sign that your Facebook is hacked or is in the process of being hacked, is if you get repeated recovery email attempts without you doing anything.
  • Apart from this any odd and different things in the online world may signal that your account is being hacked.

What do you do after your Facebook account has been hacked?

Once you know that your account has been compromised here are a few things you can do:

  1. Inform your friends that your account is being used maliciously by somebody else. The hacker could get in touch with your friends and ask for financial assistance or dig deeper into their personal details as well
  2. Report that your Facebook account has been hacked at this URL
  3. Logout of Facebook from all devices
  4. Change the Facebook password immediately(you can also change the password for other sites as well)
  5. Enable 2FA or two factor authentication

These are some simple steps that will help you stay safe on Facebook.

Facebook is a massive social media platform holding huge amounts of personal information. It is crucial to keep an eye on it and make sure that it is safe from hackers all the time!
