Unboxed! My American Life :)

I was pondering for a long time on what I should write for the letter ‘U’ (like I always do :)) when lo and behold, I thought of writing about my own book that I published in January 2021! 🙂

What this book is about:

‘Unboxed’ My American Life’, has the story of my life in the US. This book has 72 pages and is available as a paperback.

I (along with my husband and kids) stayed in the US for about 14 years from 1996 – 2010 before moving back to India. The US has 50 states and I had the privilege of staying in College Station, TX, Long Island, NY and Detroit, MI. Read about my experiences in all three states in this book!

Attractions in the US:

I enjoyed writing about our visit to all the attractions in the US. Since there was no YouTube then, I could only recall my experiences about climbing the ‘Statue Of Liberty’ in New York, visiting the Niagara Falls, New York, Mackinac Island in Michigan and supplement them with suitable pictures.

We were also privileged to visit the original Twin Towers in New York before their fall in September 2001.

The food, higher education in US, myths about the USA, snow in the USA, public libraries in the US – I have touched them all in this book!

I have tried to give a balanced opinion on life in the US without glamorizing it. There are a lot of hardships in American life that is not evident from the outside and I have tried my best to highlight them. Similarly, I have tried to pinpoint things that are comparatively easier in the US than in India.

Most Indians in the US suffer from a “+1” year problem! This is the problem of trying to return to India in the “next” year! 🙂 (and each year, it gets moved to the “next” year!! :))

In this regard, I have interviewed people who stayed abroad for 10+ years and what they miss about India. I have also interviewed people who returned to India after a staying abroad for 10+ years.
