All parents silently or verbally admire their children. I openly admire both my children by writing about them 😉 (I am not sure whether they like it or not…but they do read it…! :))
My Walking Einstein:
My Walking Einstein has to be my son. With JEE Mains(Session 2) result being declared yesterday, I was reflecting on my son’s IIT-JEE journey 5 years ago. A boy who always studied and figured things on his own, we always call him our family’s ‘Walking Einstein’!! 🙂 I have never taught him anything beyond 1st or 2nd grade. He has always learned everything on his own and has never had any sort of tuitions.
As the years of his IIT coaching began when he was in 11th grade, he quietly went about gathering the information needed for the exam, the books, the previous years question papers, how to study and more. We have never helped him in any way for any of the questions(because we ourselves don’t know the answers to those Math, Physics and Chemistry questions – ha, ha! 🙂 and we his parents are Engineers too…, but we are not in the current JEE preparation loop ;)) We helped him by supplying the books, picking him from coaching, and giving other forms of moral support.
He slid through the two Mains exams with ease scoring above 99.94 percentile and getting an AIR of 5000 and odd in 2019. None of us knew the effort that he put when scoring such a grand percentile and an even greater AIR!! Pretty soon, he did the JEE Advanced also with the same ease getting an AIR of 2588!! 🙂 All along we were happy and excited but never knew the work and efforts he put in. We always knew he was gifted and talented but not to this much level!
IIT-R life also came and went and he slid through his Engineering Physics stream with the same ease and calm scoring a GPA of 9.331/10 to the point that I thought that Physics was easy! 😉
As I sit and reflect on his academic journey, I have no clue how he does it and I don’t think any of us will ever know how he does it with ease. He just does it and we are happy. The only side effect is, I mistakenly tell everybody that many academic things are easy (CBSE is easy, Physics is easy, Mains is easy and more(face palm!))
There are many things that money can buy, but fortunately or unfortunately, intelligence isn’t one of them. Just blessed that God has given such a beautiful gift to him!
In the light of all this, won’t it be a crime if I don’t call him my walking Einstein? 🙂
My crawling Einstein:
This post will be incomplete without writing about my ‘crawling Einstein’ – my daughter.
As the younger one and being in the shadow of an IITian, it was quite difficult since the shadow was sometimes bigger than her!! But she carved her own path. She debunked all coaching myths and refused to go for any sort of coaching for her JEE aspirations(she also wanted to do JEE …what to say…) We rejected all marketing calls from all coaching institutes by the middle of her 11th grade and she just strode down stubbornly in her self-made own path(she had her own reasons…but still)
She wanted personal attention for all the subjects and we found it for her. We found good teachers after multiple iterations. I always encouraged her to voice her doubts and she was continuously voicing her doubts through her excellent teacher and her brother. FYI, those 11th and 12th grade Math, Physics and Chemistry problems are tough, I tell you…
Finally, after hours and hours of studying and fighting with the three subjects, and with no professional coaching institutes behind her back, she did decently well in her second attempt of JEE Mains( and did extremely well in Physics…the subject she detested the most in life!!)
So, I call her my crawling Einstein… who has proved that a lot of hard work, sweat, tears, confusion and anxiety can in fact, lead to good results!
Here’s to both my Einsteins, leading the best and happiest life! 🙂
This post is for alphabet ‘W’ for BlogchatterA2Z 2024!
congratulations to the champ… I loved this blog
Thank you…
Such a lovely writeup. Good luck to both Einsteins. Appreciate their self-motivation.
