Maybe of all the topics that I wrote for this A2Z series in April, ‘Vibe coding‘ has been my favorite. It opened my eyes to a new type of coding which did not involve coding at all! (isn’t that fun! :))

‘Vibe coding’ seems to be vibing for techies as well non-techies due to its ease of use with English words. Just imagine telling the vibe coding platforms ‘Build me a blog’ in plain English and it does it by just you prompting you along?

This seems to be the beauty of ‘Vibe coding’. But can ‘vibe coding’ really matter for serious programming after the initial excitement is something I am curious about. Here are some issues with it as I can see:

  1. Distributed system

‘Vibe coding’ may be used to create distributed applications eventually but it might need a lot of support in the form human coding approach as well. For now, the citizens of the world are tinkering with ‘vibe coding’ to create chatbots, games and other generic applications and not creating any large distributed applications.

2. Whom does the code belong?

The code that is generated by the vibe coding platforms is definitely not generated by the vibe coding platform itself. It is a result of content scraped from different platforms written originally by different people. Whom does this new amalgamated code belong is a true enigma for the users of the code.

3. Production

Can amalgamated vibe coding be used in production systems is the next big question. This may not be possible now, but it may be possible in the coming months or year(s)

4. Security and privacy

Security and Privacy are integral parts of any small or large application. How will ‘vibe coding’ ensure the security and privacy aspects of applications is yet to be seen. Will it be able to enforce password management, access control, abide by privacy laws, just by a English line like

“Generate an application which is safe, secure and abides by all privacy policies’

remains to be seen.

Would you like to see a video grab of a Loveable vibe coding platform in action?

We just give simple English instructions to create a ‘calculator app’ the following way:

The ‘Calculator app’ is created in a matter of few minutes and is the coolest thing ever!

Do try your hand at ‘vibe coding’ and let me know how it is! 🙂

  1. Vibe coding seems to be like the AI-powered no-code apps everyone can build using online tools. You make great points about security and privacy concerns.

  2. You really got me thinking about the future of coding. It’s amazing how ‘vibe coding’ simplifies the process, making it more accessible to everyone. However, the concerns about security and privacy are valid and something to keep an eye on. Thanks for shedding light on both the potential and the challenges!

  3. For a person who would always get her syntax wrong while coding and could tear out her hair during debugging, I am wondering why this was not there when I was in college 🙂

  4. It’s great to see you’re mindful of code ownership in vibe coding. I’m curious to see where these advanced changes will lead us. It’s a major transformation for the entire industry. Who knows, by this time, Pak might be using AI to finalize it’s war strategy against India.
