No sooner had I discovered Wordle about a month back, than I was hooked onto it…I could sit up past midnight normally, and now I sat till midnight especially to do Wordle…:) 🙂
For the uninitiated, Wordle is a word game wherein one has to guess the 5 letter word in 6 tries. There are minimal rules and there is a new word released at midnight every day.
It was fun and exciting to do Wordle everyday and try and guess the 5 letter word of the day. Other Wordle players also joined in and it was fun and exciting! Wordle is not a brain power game – it was just a game where we guessed a simple word. We mix and match the vowels and consonants and sometimes, we guess the word as quickly as possible or many a time, the correct word never clicks at all!
In the course of playing Wordle, soon, I discovered that the entire set of Wordle words was available in full public view all with a few clicks! (face palm!) Being a programmer first and InfoSec specialist next, my curiosity was aroused.

Would you like to know how to do it?
SPOILER ALERT!!
DO NOT READ BELOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE WORDS!!
- Go to the Wordle site: https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html
- On your laptop – right click on the page
- Click on ‘View Page Source’
- Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the file and click on the <script src=”main.18637ca1.js“></script>
And lo and behold the entire set of words in visible in plain sight!! (face palm!! :()
All it took was 4 steps to see all the words of the Wordle challenge! 🙁
I know this is not a serious design flaw as hard coding passwords – but it still takes away the thrill of playing the game.
Now, to find the next bug somewhere in the Internet!! 🙂
Thanks to my friend for helping me unwrap this information!
