- VirusTotal is a company that was launched by a Spanish security company called Hispasec Sistemas in 2004. It was acquired by Google in 2012 but changed ownership to Chronicle again in 2018(which is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc)

- VirusTotal is a service that analyzes files and detects viruses, malware, trojans in real time.

- VirusTotal inspects the “item” with over 70 antivirus scanners and URL/domain blacklisting services.
- It tells whether the file or URL submitted is malicious or not along with a detailed analysis
- Files up to 650MB can be uploaded onto the website
- The result of the shared file is shared to the submitter and to examining partners
