‘VirusTotal’ is a site that analyses and checks suspicious files and URLs to detect malware. This is then shared with the security community. Here are a few details about this exciting site as well:

1. VirusTotal is a company that was launched by a Spanish security company called Hispasec Sistemas in 2004. It was acquired by Google in 2012 but changed ownership to Chronicle again in 2018(which is a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc)

3. For many years initially, VirusTotal was run with only 6 engineers
4. VirusTotal is a service that analyzes files and detects viruses, malware, trojans in real time.
5. With ‘Virus Total’ users can select files from their own system or any malicious URLs and submit them through public web interface, desktop uploaders, browser extensions and a programmatic API. 
6. VirusTotal inspects the “item” with over 70 antivirus scanners and URL/domain blacklisting services.
7. It tells whether the file or URL submitted is malicious or not along with a detailed analysis
8. Files up to 650MB can be uploaded onto the website
9. The result of the shared file is shared to the submitter and to examining partners
10. This improves the global IT security level
11. The scanning report is also submitted to the VirusTotal community. Users can vote on whether a particular content is harmful
12. VirusTotal community is a network of users who read and comment on files and URLs submitted.
13. VirusTotal only acts as an aggregator of information and contributes to improve IT security level
