I am sure much of my audience is living in an independent house, but the recent move to a ‘villa’ made me think about what is slightly different and better in a villa. A villa is just a fancy word in the city for an independent house – but since this is inside a gated community – it is more orderly like an apartment(waste management, water management and the other civic amenities)
When we mention ‘villa’ to a city dweller – the immediate thought that comes is “more space” and they are not wrong! 🙂 Life in a villa is definitely more spacious. It may or may not be humongous but is definitely bigger than most apartments. That itself is a huge breather if you are me! 🙂 Now there are apartments that are 3000 sq. ft. but the average apartment might be between 1200 – 1300 sq. ft. in Bangalore (not the super built up area) When we have 4 adults living in a 1100 sq .ft. space, we know how life will be! This pleasantly changes in a villa life, when the four adults are not bumping into each other all the time.
The second factor has to be the “sunshine factor”. Rather than guessing if sun will come inside our home or not and which room will be covered by sunshine and which room will not ( that is apartment life, btw, for the uninitiated) – we just get sunshine from 360 degrees inside the house which is again a nice thing and I think it is good for health too! 🙂
The third factor has to be the little garden that comes with each villa. I don’t need a gigantic garden – but a little bit of land to plant my roses is nice 🙂
The fourth factor has to be the parking situation. With Indian families opting for multiple vehicles, parking is never a problem in a villa. You can have two or three vehicles and we don’t have to run and buy or rent a parking spot. We just park all the vehicles on the side of our villa! 🙂 (and everybody else might too…;) ;))
The fifth factor has to be the ability to just step inside and outside the house without waiting for the lift and getting stuck in the lift due to power outages(you do need the lift in high rise apartments) Bangalore and rampant power outages go hand in hand. When that necessity has been wiped out and you can easily step in and outside the house, it is quite a blessing! (it does bring with it – its own challenges – but for now, I am only looking at the bright side :))
These are just some pleasant changes that I have noticed when staying in a villa. Do you have any such experiences?
