After having written about ‘Nongu’ or ‘Palm tree fruit‘ a while back, let us have a look at yet another Southern India speciality, ‘Nannari Sarbath’.
Nannari Sarbath is refreshing drink that is supposed to cool the body down during the hot summer months. It is typically mixed with water and some ice cubes and some lemon juice can be added along as well. It definitely feels great when we drink it in this 40 degree heat!! This is how Nannari Sarbath looks like;
Nannari is also known in English as ‘Â Indian Sarsaparilla‘. Only the root of the plant is used to make Nannari syrup. The root is brown in color and the inner portion is supposed to be white in color. The syrup made from this Nannari root is known as Nannari syrup. This is then mixed with water and natural sugar like ‘Panam kalkandam'(palm sugar) to keep us cool during the summer months.
In the course of time, it has been mixed with other things like white sugar and it might take away the original greatness of Nannari sarbath. If possible, do have it with natural ingredients only.
Have you heard of this drink before? If not, do have it during the summer months and feel a refreshing change!

such a ‘chilled and sweet’ post 🙂 The name sounds like moghal, wiki says it has an Iranian root. Whatever, it is simple, yet it is delicious!
