In the tech world, ‘Machine Learning’ and ‘Artificial intelligence’ or AI have been buzzwords for quite a while now.
Let us see a brief overview of both of them and note the differences between them.
Artificial Intelligence | Machine Learning |
1. ‘Artificial intelligence’ encompasses the topics of Machine learning and Deep learning | 1. ‘Machine Learning’ is a sub-topic of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ |
2. ‘Artificial intelligence’ as the name indicates is training machines to act like humans | 2. In machine learning models, systems learn from data sets without being explicitly programmed |
3. Amazon’s ‘Alexa’ and Apple’s ‘Siri’ are examples of artificial intelligence being used in the world today | 3. Predicting when patients fall sick, self driving cars, prioritizing posts according to each social media user are some examples of machine learning |
4. AI is mostly used for decision making | 4. In ‘Machine learning’ , machines learn from user experiences |
In addition, it must be noted that although AI and ML involve imparting human-like capabilities to a computer, it does not mean their objective is to make machines replace humans in doing certain jobs. In fact, AI and ML, to some extent, combine the new human-like capabilities with existing capabilities of machines in an effort to solve real-world problems.
We have seen some differences between machine learning and AI. It can be understood that both AI and machine learning are both ruling our life though we are unable to understand its significance.
Stay tuned tomorrow for yet another fascinating comparison…:)

Yeah, these are the buzzwords of the industry indeed. So often people use these interchangeably and worse, wrongly. Thanks for the simple explanation
Ok, though I knew what AI meant, never thought so much about machine learning. thanks for this informative post.
Informative post, Jayanti. This is a vast and a very interesting topic for me and I have read quite a few detailed articles on this.
Your content explained it in simple words and easily. Thanks for this post. Happy A2Zing 🙂
