It’s all in the Game!

Listen to this article

Many of us love our sports and games. In fact, most men, feel happy only if they follow any of the popular sports in the world and are able to discuss with a close group of family and friends. I know my better half always reminisces about the days when he followed the Gentlemen’s game before the advent of TV…. on a radio…(yes, we are that old ;))

Looking at him and many others bond over a game, I have observed certain funny things about games around me. Now, I have just observed these things in jest and nothing I post is serious here 🙂

Apologize for the flaw in the above picture(AI! face palm)

Have you wondered how most games are? These are their similarities:

  1. Whether it is basketball, football, American football, baseball, Cricket, badminton, tennis, most of the games involve a ball as a medium to play with. From the list of games mentioned above, only badminton makes use of a “shuttle” though it can be played with ball too.
  2. The ball can be big or small or even oblong in shape(American football)
  3. The ball is passed from side to side and the main idea is always to get the ball into the opponent’s net.
  4. This is done either by kicking it on the ground with the foot or by using a bat or by passing it in the air! These are some similarities between all the games.
  5. The differences between the games come only in the number of players – some can be played as a team and some can be played as an individual event

So, why do we design all these physical sports with a ball? Is it because the earth is spherical in shape? 🙂

Is it so much fun to keep passing the ball from side to side and have so many spectators observing it? And the spectators themselves pay so much of money just to observe the ball moving from side to side… 😉

What are your thoughts on games around the world? Isn’t the ball a common medium in all the sports? Why do we design all sports with a ball and bat? Is it so much fun that way?

  1. I can so relate. The first time I watched football, I was so so bored because for 85 minutes the ball was being passed from one side to the other with nothing else happening!
