In between my easy C posts for this challenge, I like to include a thoughtful l post too…:)

They say “Age is just a number”..but is this true for all? While 20s and 30s fly by for most without major physical and emotional difficulties, it is 40s and 50s that truly tests a person’s age.

As I keep thinking, why and how we age, I have observed that some people seem to age faster than others. And yet for others, time gently touches them.

How do we age? Here are few of my thoughts:

  1. This reason is probably the most obvious one. Time does pass by and our body also starts ageing. This shows up when we are not able to do things as we freely did before. It maybe simple things like inflexibility in certain places where it was not there, face gently changing and showing the age. It is the first case when the body itself slows down.
    • But it can definitely be slowed by eating right, exercising and doing Yoga and meditation
  2. The second reason of ageing is when we stop doing a lot of things because of age. Not able to do certain things because of age is one thing. But thinking we should not do it, because we have reached a certain age is another thing. Does this hasten the ageing process? I am not sure…but sometimes, I think this may be the cause of ageing too. Any part of the body that is not used results in deterioration over a period of time.
    • As an example, if we are able to bend and touch our toes when we are 30 and we gradually stop doing it when we are 40, the body forgets the habit and we cannot touch our toes. As a result, even if we want to bend and touch our toes when we are 50, we can’t since the body has fogotten that skill and we think we have aged!
  3. People undergo a lot of different experiences. Some experience more difficult situations than others. Losing loved ones, living through health concerns, financial difficulties, relationship difficulties and many other difficult situations cause a person to age faster. While life is smooth for some, it may not always be the case with all. And not all with be able to handle situation with ease. Stress is a part of modern day life and this definitely makes a person age faster.

Last but not least, ageing is of course a natural process and we can slow it down and not eliminate it entirely.

Are there any other reasons why people seem to age faster than others? What are your thoughts? Do drop them in the comments below…
