Now, that we are completely drowned inside AI for our daily tasks like writing, learning about a topic, drawing a picture, creating videos and many other innumerable things, we need to see the ethical ways of working with AI.

AI is everywhere – in academics, healthcare, in research and in many of our day to day tasks and activities. AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity have become a right hand for many of us. In earlier days, we used to have an encyclopedia at home and refer it for information, now we just ask ChatGPT! 🙂

In spite of the fact that AI has spread its tentacles all over, we are still in its infancy. We are still in the ‘excited’ part of AI – where most of us are like ‘It can do this now, and this too and what other things can it do ” 🙂 This post will deal with the academic, writing and image creation ethics of working alongside AI.

Academic ethics when working with AI:

Now, that we know that AI is permanently here, it cannot be banned from any industry. It can only be regulated, with policies and statements. On the academic front, Professors have to rethink giving assignments, home works and projects. Students will definitely lean towards AI chatbots and get the answer and submit it. The assignment will be submitted, but will the student learn anything through the whole process, is a big question.

In order to solve this problem, either the Professors have to give questions that cannot be solved by AI chatbots or lay down rules and regulations when doing the homework. All homework and assignments will have to come with note saying that they have been done by AI, if the homework has indeed been solved partially/fully by the chatbot.

Writing ethics and AI:

Now, that AI can write anything and everything, I see many using AI for normal social media posts. How do I know? (I observe it keenly and I think I am right ;)) Is it right? Of course, there is nothing wrong in doing it though a disclaimer would help tremendously. I think a little bit of truth on the Internet for simple social media posts would build trust nicely.

Image creation ethics and AI:

Recently the ‘Ghibli’ image trend created an explosion of entire set of Ghibli images. On one side, people were having fun and on the other side many were questioning if AI is indeed allowed to replicate an art creators original image style.

The only way image creation can be done ethically is if it is regulated and images cannot be created without the express permission from the creator. All AI images thus created should also have a seal stating that the images are actually AI created.

These are some ethical questions that can be solved when working with AI. I am sure there will be plenty more and you bet, I will be blogging about them! 🙂

  1. Such a beautiful blog. I agree ethically working on anything is always the most appropriate way. I had read this line somewhere – work with so much ethics and integrity as if someday when you are super popular, no one should be able to find out any of your unethical ways of work.
