In the previous post we learnt about Clubhouse. In this post we will discuss yet another social media platform that is creating ripples in the tech world – Discord.

Discord is another site that aids in better communication between individuals with like minded interests. You can find it at https://discord.com/

Here are a few points about Discord:

  1. It was originally founded in 2015 by Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy
  2. The duo originally created it to continue enjoying playing video games together.
  3. But eventually Discord became a place where communities could engage with each other over text, voice and videos
  4. It can be downloaded for the PC, Mac or phone
  5. Users can join a “server” by an invitation only
  6. However, you can create your own Discord server and invite your friends and family to it
  7. Within a server you can create your own topic based channels and collaborate only on that topic with others(instead of clogging up the entire group or server)
  8. In addition to topic based channels, you can also pop into the voice channels and talk with anyone who is there
  9. Discord servers can be created for local hiking clubs, art communities , yoga classes, gaming and study groups
  10. Discord enables friends to play games with each other, share their screen or give a live art demo
  11. You can create “Roles” for certain members who will have special permissions
  12. The basic Discord is free to use for any number of members and message limits. You can upgrade your emojis and screen sharing through Discord Nitro and Server Boosting.

While Discord seems very similar to other social media platforms, it is the ability to create “channels” and users engaging within that particular channel that is quite a game changer.

Have you been using Discord? What do you think about it?
