By now, the whole world is chattering about ‘ChatGPT’, Bard and other AI chatbots. AI or ‘Artificial Intelligence’ is the concept that is powering these chatbots. ‘Artificial Intelligence’ as the name suggests is intelligence in machines which seek to mimic human intelligence. AI in chatbot is given the super concoction of computer science knowledge and large data sets to make it give answers on any topic like a super human dictionary.

Example of AI:

One popular example of AI is the ‘ChatGPT’ chatbot that made its appearance in November of 2022 and was adopted by all in the tech community.

ChatGPT is the AI powered chatbot that enables our conversations. It has been created by a company called OpenAI. You can ask it any question and it answers the questions to the best of its abilities. In fact, you can carry a complete conversation with the AI chatbot. You can correct it, ask follow up questions and more. It can be used to write emails, write code, debug code, write blog posts, do Math calculations and even write novels! 🙂 Chatbots are just the beginning of the AI and us using its smartness and intelligence.

Dangers of AI:

We have already been living with AI with or without knowing it. Navigating roads via maps, facial recognition, search recommendations, writing assistants such as Grammarly all use AI. With AI already pervading our lives, what is its sudden danger?

As AI becomes more powerful, what are its imminent dangers?

  1. Data privacy violations

Users of the chat bot are expected to be over 18 years of age. But this can never be actually verified. In a latest development, OpenAI has been accused of stealing user data. Italy recently shutdown ChatGPT over these privacy violations.

2. Job losses due to AI taking over many jobs

With many jobs being automated by ChatGPT and other AI engines, it is quite a possibility that the manually operated jobs might actually be lost.

3. Legal issues

4. Illogical thinking

5. Deep fakes

6. May cause harm to humanity in the future

These are just a few of the dangers post by AI.

As we enter unchartered waters with ‘Artificial Intelligence’ it has become clear that AI might indeed harm us in unthought ways. To this end, there was an open letter signed by Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and many other tech leaders to ban the development of advanced AI for a period of 6 months.

What do you think? Should AI and its powers be banned from all tech walks of life? Will our tech life be the same again?

  1. Adapting to AI will take some adjustments and ego suppression, despite it’s pitfalls, I dont think banning is an option because it’s too good a tech. Will need sensible regulation for everything to work, in my opinion 😊

  2. I guess AI usage should be streamlined and brought under subscription sort of thing to avoid few of the cons like job losses, plagiarism, harm to creativity, etc.

  3. I saw this documentary called ‘Coded Bias’ that talked about how algorithms are embedded with the inherent bias of the coder and the dangers of that bias. It had been an eye-opening thought.

  4. Your tech posts scare and enlighten me at the same time! Glad you are writing on such helpful topics. Looking forward to your posts this month 🙂
