Did I get scammed?
Looking at the post’s question, many might think that I got scammed :)…but thankfully it was not me who got scammed. There are rules and guidelines for maintaining security and privacy of any technology.
But there are no rules and guidelines for hacking and scamming people.
Scamsters invent new and modern ways to trick people to part with their money or personal information. It is their novelty, ingenuity, passion and pattern that works each time and either precious information is lost or valuable money is stolen.
I did observe one or two things as and when people reported getting scammed. Most of them operate on a few important factors;
- Innocence of senior citizens or any other individual by means of which they part with crucial information like OTP( scammers may target vulnerable people like senior citizens and other innocent individuals more)
- Fear factor – Create a feeling of fear in the individual stating that they are calling from IT dept or any other major government organization due to which they work in a much more frenzied manner
- Move fast – There are always subsequent phone calls in quick succession from different numbers from scammers such that the individual cannot comprehend what is going on. The poor victim cannot even think if they are being scammed or if it is the real thing
