“Blogger to Author!!” – now that is an amazing title, isn’t it? 🙂 Well, it felt awesome to publish my first e-book and don the super cape of “Author” with Blogchatter 2 years back. The recognition that I got as author was astounding!!

As one of the mentors for this year’s Blogchatter’s ebook, carnival, here are my experiences that enabled my transition from blogger to author:

Once I got my content ready, I got it proof read it a couple of times and made sure it was “read worthy” !! I made sure there were no spelling mistakes or grammatical mistakes. I also made sure that there was a nice “flow” to the e-book. Once the formatting was done and the table of contents were added, I submitted it to Blogchatter to helped me to refine the process further. Soon, it was uploaded onto Blogchatter’s website and I was an author!! 🙂 You can find my first e-book now on Amazon’s site at this link.It is based on India -US experiences.

These are the key takeaways that I learnt from my Blogger to Author journey:

  1. Know your audience – it is definitely good to know whom you are writing for.
  2. Choose a topic that might resonate with them(of course, if it is a work of fiction, the criteria will be different)
  3. The most important thing in a book is always the flow. Does your e-book flow well? Are people able to understand what you are trying to say? It would be good to proof read it a couple of times by different people and get their opinion too
  4. Blogchatter recommends a minimum of 5000 words in the e-book and I would recommend you to stick with it and if possible give it more volume.
  5. Double check to make sure there are no grammatical errors and spelling mistakes
  6. If you are planning on converting your blog posts into an e-book, the content will have to be revised appropriately.
  7. Once this is done, a good book cover is needed. Canva is the most popular graphics design platform today. You can definitely create a good one pretty quickly and best of all, it is free!
  8. Do follow all the tips given by Blogchatter to structure your e-book well. These are great tips that will help you become a complete author.
