Which do you prefer? Oh…btw, I love to drive…if I could chosen another profession in life, I would have definitely chosen being a ‘Race car driver’ 😉 😉
And coming back to the question – Do you prefer automatic or Manual transmission cars? The US predominantly had automatic transmission cars even when I left it 13 years ago. India predominantly had manual transmission cars when we stepped into India in 2010(automatic transmission cars were available – but they were pricier)
Manual transmission cars:
We need to change gears and the clutch plays a major role here. The better half taught me to drive in the US – read that exciting story here...:) After returning to India after 14 years, I had to re-learn driving manual transmission cars from a driving school. Initially, the car would grumble, stumble, growl and just grind to a halt in the middle of hectic traffic (sigh!) I had to re-learn to press the clutch gently and release it without any quiver from the car 😉 My driving instructor also taught me the gentle ways of handling Indian traffic…but in spite of that, driving a manual transmission car is good but cumbersome…
In manual transmission cars, the car would start slipping backward in slopes! 🙁 (yes, I don’t like that) The amount of technique that is needed to manage that aspect might be exciting for many(like my better half :)) but it is nerve racking for me…
Automatic transmission cars:
There is no clutch here and there is only a brake and accelerator to press. That is a really big game changer and it is absolutely a delight to drive automatic transmission cars. In India, of course there is AMT (Automatic manual transmission), CVT(Continuously variable transmission) and other types. In the AMT cars, the cars do slip when parked on slopes…
I only remember the simple automatic cars in the US. Life was a driving dream when the car and traffic behaved properly… 🙂
