A habit that I learnt from my parent!

Listen to this article

By now, most of my world should be knowing whom I would have had learnt a lot of things from… It has to be my father! 🙂

My father had a lot of amazing qualities that I admired (maybe he only had amazing qualities ;))- like thinking smartly, talking confidently, always thinking of the best for his daughters and wife and more. But I think I loved his habit of planning smartly and much ahead of time the most. He could look years down the line and predict a lot of things just by thinking logically.

Far sightedness:

There definitely cannot be anybody who could think and plan ahead as good as my father.

What will his daughters study in life?

By the time, we were in our teens, my father had to think a lot and figure out the current circumstances about what his daughters would study so that they can come in life. He had already done his homework and knew that Computers will rock the world and his daughters HAD to study computers! (and this was in the late 1980’s)

Next – where will they study?

He knew his daughters will be studying Computers alright, when we were probably just in 10th and 5th grades. But where will we study it was his next question? He found that answer soon as we were moving from city to city during his transfers(He was in the bank – so transfers were common) We were in Coimbatore during his routine transfers and he did a lot research and decided that his daughters will study there only. Coimbatore boasted of a number of engineering days those days itself and he knew his daughters will study ONLY in PSG college of Technology, Coimbatore.

Colleges in Tamil Nadu then and now were extremely conservative and they were strict as well. Girls were expected to be dressed only in salwars with dupattas or sarees – no jeans, pants etc. My father was of course a happy man when he heard these rules and regulations! 🙂

He knew if he had to move further in his transfers, his daughters were at least safe there.

Foreign countries:

He always dreamt that his daughters would go abroad one day and be educated there as well! He bought suitcases for that reason much, much ahead of his time. He always told us one daughter will be studying at Harvard and the other daughter will be studying in another country! 🙂

These are just few examples of how my father thought ahead.

So, it is this habit of thinking and planning ahead that I have truly admired and learnt from my father. I also think and plan ahead by thinking logically and carefully. If the plan works, it is fine, if it doesn’t, we can always go back to the drawing board.

But the thinking and the planning part has always stayed with me and will continue to. This is my simple way to paying homage to my father!
